Educational History for Kids
- Learning History in an Appealing Way
Kids are first exposed to history in school where they have to sit through, memorizing dates, names and places until they're blue in the face. And not a lot of kids like being blue in the face, do they? We're only able to truly appreciate history when we're older, that they're actually rather interesting stories about how our world has progressed, and they contain viable and valuable life lessons.
That doesn't mean, of course, that we have to keep kids miserable in the meantime. In this new age of continuously advancing technology, we are able to change the way kids learn history. Maybe they're still going to have to trudge through it in classrooms the same way we did, but this time around, they've got better resources.
Not only are there books that allow history to be told in a more appealing way, you can get educational history computer games and CD roms and DVDs for kids as well.
History for Kids - Books
As you can probably imagine, there are books for all kinds of histories. Take a peek into different civilizations in Cortes and the Conquest of the Aztec Empire in World History by Charles Flowers, and A History of the Ancient Greeks by Don Nardo.
Find histories that shook the world and changed our current way of thinking with 10,000 Days of Thunder: A History of the Vietnam War by Philip Caputo, 33 Things Every Girl Should Know about Women's History by Tonya Bolden, and African-American History from Emancipation to Today by Ann Byers, among others.
Kids have varied interests and will probably want to read up on the histories of what they like to do, given a little nudge.
